V823 Cyg has a companion located 10 arcsec to the northwest. It is quite red with V=15.727+/-0.031 and B-V=1.631+/-0.012. 2. From DSS V823 Cyg would seem to be about magnitude 19.5 in quiescence. 3. One of the wide-colour extension stars is a suspected variable star. This is the star with a magnitude of V=12.271. It is catalogued as NSV 12716, type unknown and magnitude 13.03B. 4. There is a bright star to the east of the variable at 01h 20m 02.9s +36d 06' 36" with a reliable Tycho-2 magnitude of V=9.39+/-0.02. Bruce Sumner 1 February 2001
