SDSS Cataclysmic Variable Charts

In October 2001, first results of a new survey done using the Sloan Digital Sky Survey were published. In this paper 19 new and 3 previously known CV systems were identified. The complete survey is expected to locate at least 400 new CVs.

The abstract and full paper can be read at

The charts and sequence files contained in these web pages are for these new CVs. The photometry used to create the sequences was supplied by Dr. Arne Henden of the US Naval Observatory, Flagstaff Station.

The photometry data files themselves are available online at
ftp://ftp.nofs.navy.mil/pub/outgoing/aah/sequence/

In some cases, additional 'photometry' was necessary to fill out the sequences. For bright stars Tycho-2 (V) magnitudes were used, and for fainter stars USNO A2.0 (V) magnitudes were used. Charts with USNO A2.0 (V) magnitudes should be considered preliminary, pending additional photometry.

The header information on these charts is different than other charts on this website. Types and magnitude ranges have been omitted, because they are generally unknown. The positions of the CVs themselves are given in the names. SDSS-Sloan Digital Sky Survey, p- preliminary astrometry (position), jxxxxxxxxxx- the coordinates in equinox j2000. Therefore, the coordinates for the objects are not listed separately.

We plan to update and add to this list as information becomes available, so please check back occasionally to see what's new.
